ARINC 404 / MIL-C-81659 (Radiall DSX series) is described as follows:

MIL-C-81659B: These environmental or non environmental connectors are offered in four shell sizes (size 1, 2, 3 and 4) that have dimensions conforming to the MIL-C-81659B standard and a polarization system providing 99 polarization positions. They use size 20HD, 16 and 12 power contacts.
ARINC 404A : Connectors of this type are offered in one shell size (size 1) only, the shell having no polarization system. It uses size 20, 20HD, 16 and 12 power contacts.
ARINC 404 B : These connectors are identical to MIL-C-81659B connectors and are available in non-environmental version only. The power contacts are of the same sizes as those used on the ARINC 404A connectors.
SPECIAL CONNECTORS : shielded and filtered connectors. Also connectors for front-release front-removal contacts, and connectors with special plating such as nickel or cadmium olive drab are available.

DSX series connectors are composed of the following 3 parts:

The contacts: allow signal and power transmission. RADIALL DSX series contacts are offered in size 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 12, 16, 20, 20HD, 22; in signal, power, coaxial, twinax, fiber optic contacts and in crimp, wire wrap, PC tail and fiber optic contact termination.
The inserts : provide retention of the contacts in a wide variety of contact arrangements. Mixed contact arrangements are available allowing a combination of signal, power, coax, triax, twinax to be used. Contacts are installed and removed using simple standard tooling. Inserts are available for either front-release front- removal contacts or rear-release rear-removal contacts.
The shell: retains the inserts and provides protection and alignment of the inserts and contacts during mating. The shell can be fitted with grounding spring fingers which provide shell to shell conductivity once mated. RADIALL DSX series offers 4 shell sizes; size 1, 2, 3 and 4.
